Essential Tool: Clear Description of Services

It’s time to FILL IN THE BLANKS!

To be successful in marketing your business, you need to have a clear description of your services so that you can easily communicate what it is you have to offer.

You can combine some of your ideal client description into this, too.

A helpful template for creating a clear description of services can be built using these components:

  • Your job title
  • Ideal client description (abbreviated)
  • Ideal client’s desire (what they want to do)
  • Ideal client’s problem (what keeps them stuck)
  • What you do to help them
  • Results they see after working with you

So let’s take those pieces to fill in the blanks in this sentence (kind of like a Mad Libs activity—remember those?):

I’m a [job title] for [ideal client description] who want to [desire] but [what keeps them stuck].

I help them [what you do] so they can [result of working with you].

Here’s an example:

I’m a marketing coach for service-based solopreneurs who want to get more clients but they get overwhelmed by all the possibilities and often end up doing nothing at all. I help them get unstuck by showing them how to create a marketing action plan with tasks that match their unique mix of strengths and preferences so they can make new connections, build relationships, share their expertise, and get more clients.

YOUR TURN!

Try filling in the blanks of this template to create your clear description of services. When you’ve worked it up, you can post it below and I’ll get you some feedback to let you know if it feels clear to me.

Please feel free to ask questions about this topic if you have them. Are there any parts you’re struggling with (either with what you’ve already written, or in figuring out what to write)? Let me know, and let’s see if we can get rid of the struggle so you can finish this up and move on to the next step.
